Record One is both haunting and vulnerable and at times takes on unexpected directions in its moods, containing a sound that is both brand new and completely mature. Like different scenes from a film playing on loop, it delves into memories and experiences that create a cinematic narrative across the four tracks. O'Donoghue's intimate, emotional vocal style is coupled with lyrics that are fraught with restlessness and explore the depths of human darkness and the spaces they inhabit. Complemented by Barton's rhythmically driven guitar lines, the songs possess a depth and breadth about them while retaining a minimalist acoustic-leaning sound.
